Vanadium prices, electrolyte supply-demand, and VRFB project economics
YHResearch estimates the global vanadium flow battery electrolyte market at about RMB 1.374 billion in 2025, rising to nearly RMB 4.669 billion by 2032 at an 18.8% CAGR. 2025 commercial sales were roughly 69,000-78,000 cubic metres at mainstream ex-works prices of US$2,450-2,850 per cubic metre.
SunSirs' vanadium pentoxide benchmark was unchanged at 97,916.67 yuan/tonne on 3 November 2026, holding a plateau reached on 30 October after a month of erosion from 99,666.67 yuan/tonne. The average spread has widened to -262.50 yuan/tonne, signalling short-term downward momentum in the vanadium feedstock that underpins VRFB electrolyte.
China, Russia and South Africa account for 96% of vanadium mine supply while VRFB still represents only about 5% of demand, and policy designation diverges across the US, EU and Japan.
SMM assessed V2O5 at an average 69,500 yuan/t on 2 November 2026 with upstream offers of 69,000–70,000 yuan/t and flake offers at 74,000 yuan/t, as downstream alloy plants purchased only as needed and few deals closed.
