What is a Vanadium Redox Flow Battery?

A vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) stores energy in liquid vanadium electrolytes held in external tanks. Power is set by the cell stack; energy is set by electrolyte volume — so duration scales from 4 to 12+ hours simply by adding electrolyte.

VRFBs deliver 20,000+ cycles, use an inherently non-flammable aqueous electrolyte, and retain recoverable vanadium value at end of life — making them one of the most proven technologies for grid-scale long-duration storage.
